Opera in the Outfield: Cinderella

Some of my Girl Scouts and a little one with Cinderella and Prince Charming at the Nationals Park!

You can listen to some audio samples of the Opera here
Buy Tickets for Cinderella here.

Last year's Opera was The Magic Flute.
I personally like the Cinderella better.

What did I like better about it?
It takes a unique spin on Cinderella.
In light of Into the Woods take on fairy tales, which I would have placed 3/5 stars on, I like this version of Cinderella a lot!

Fairy Godmother? Stepmother?
Who are they? What role do they play?
How would it be if they were replaced, by say, men?

I loved the stepfather and the different take on it.
You think changing genders would drastically change what you think of it.
To me, it did not.
There were settle but stark differences in what we know as the Original Cinderella,  Disney's (Modern) Cinderella and this Opera.
Both have their places and meanings.
I personally loved that they took this classic story and made it new.

It did not lack humour (some of which is over kids' heads, not much unlike Disney themselves).
I would not label a comedy but definitely had wit.

The days events for Opera in the Outfield were:

1. Going through the gates.

2. Going to the Candy Station (Yay M&Ms-- let's just say it is a good thing I did not win the year's supply of candy....)

3. Run from the thunderstorm (under the awnings where the seats were)

4. M&M

4. Take a picture with the living Babe Ruth

5. Take a picture with princesses of thing night

6. Huddle under the awning for 45 minutes until the storm passed and watch cartoons

7. Sit down and watch the Opera

If you have not done this, you really need to....
Did I mention it is free?

Besides the ones that did it last year, which was 2, all the other kids had never been exposed to opera. As someone who has a degree in Theatre, it was very important to expose the kids.

A great experience for the whole family!!

Girl Scouts: How to Plant Trees

Go Troop 6257!!

A troop in my Service Unit 34-8, did this AWESOME project of planting trees!
I have been asked to share by Lori Kaplan, the troop leader, their project!

A little about the project (from the leader):
"The Cadette's of Troop 6257 have finished their Breathe Journey, planting trees.  They want to spread the word about how to replicate this effort and share many lessons learned.  If you want to share the video or have any of the girls visit your troop, I'm sure they would be delighted."

How cool is this?!

Go Girl Scout Troop 6257!

May all troops and everyone help the earth and their community by planting trees and flowers!

Jurassic World Movie Review and Giveaway

Jurassic World

is....

AWESOME!!!

One of the best movies for Summer 2015!!

Coming this Friday, 12th of June to a Theatre Near You!

The movie is simply, in my opinion, a great modern sequel to the other Jurassics.
You will not be disappointed, I assure you.
See it in IMAX 3D!

The world's first screening got introduced by the Mayor of Kauai, who told us how thrilled he was to have the movie filmed there but also told us what Aloha meant.

What happens when the boys go without mum and dad to an Island, a resort, much like we have with Great America, but all Dinosaur themed?
Boys and girls dream of being able to feed a dinosaur.
Here they do that.
The boys get to experience that to a great level- their aunt works at Jurassic World

Like many theme parks though, they worry about making money as well as keeping the attractions fun and looking after the animals. What does the aunt do?

What happens when humans play mother nature and alter the genes, making hybrid dinosaurs to make the new coming attraction?
Will humans be able to control and make money on the hybrid dinosaur or will it make it's own free will and escape?

I can't give you the answer...
and you thought I would!

Go see it for yourself!
Amazing special effects!

That being said, if you take your child, make sure that they are old enough and can deal with humans being swallowed whole, or any kind of blood. In my opinion, not overly graphic, but can scare kids. I would say PG 13 tells the age level well!

Here is the trailer, but it does not do it justice!
Just for that, I will do 3 trailers, and still, no justice to how awesome the movie is!

GIVEAWAY!!

Mom and Moreare doing an awesome giveaway!!
Come enter Here for Jurassic World Prize Pack!
And then go see the movie!!!
A+++

Inside Out Movie Review

photo from Blurppy
Due in Theatres 19 June 2015.

My status after the movie: "My little ones will be dreaming of "their little ones" Ba ha ha"

One movie that as the movie goer next to me said, not the lightest of Disney's movies but very good. He even thought it was better than Tomorrowland. A movie I had been wanting to see.
I agree with him on the movie being heavier in nature for Disney, but enlightening, if you let it be.

I think they got together with a psychologist to play the reverse-psychology game on movie goers. I see what you did, Disney. Well played, or tried.
It does make you think.

Joy, Sad, Anger, Disgust and Fear.
The five main "little people" in each one our heads.
What do yours say or do?
How do they influence?
Has your "Joy" tried to over triumph over your "sad"?
Or has your "sad" triumphed your "joy"?
When is the last time you got in touch with how you really feel?

I liked this movie a lot. There is humour in it, as is many Disney movies, that is tailored for the parents to get and enjoy too. We do need that.
It is one movie that I think has something for each age level if they want it too- even the teens.

Everyone can relate because at some level we must pick up and move on with our lives. It sometimes interrupts the process that one must take to be in the moment and go through what they are feeling; having to pretend something is OK when it is not. Everyone eventually has to deal with it.

What will these feelings do to help balance a little girl after a big move cross country?
What will happen when Joy tries to always keep things happy even in the midst of a move?
What will Fear, Disgust and Anger do when Joy and Sadness get lost?
Joy has the most to learn, the most to gain, and the most to give.

I think that this is a great movie that the family will all enjoy.
