What does it mean to be Created and Called?

How many times have we wondered what we were supposed to do in life? What if we could easily take what were or feel we are called to do and just do it?

It was not until Chelsia's aunt asked her if she should work with old people that she considered it. After seeing her after her fall and losing her independence during this fall in which she was poorly taken care of in the hospital that the calling really set in for Chelsia. The calling to be a nurse.

She enjoyed being a nurse for the night shift and things began to change constantly for her. Her calling changed several times- from a nurse in the hospital working the night shift to being a family practitioner nurse to being someone who taught nursing.
I know this very well as I have two very important people in my life that I love and hold dearly as if I have known them my entire life (and did not exist in any other way) who are both nurses. Two very different personalities. Two who embody every part of the statement above that is defined as a nurse. I love you very much David and Patricia Eisenberg. You have helped to fill a void in my heart and help heal it not as a nurse but with those very qualities that you hold as a nurse. I know I am not the only one.

Their amazing journey and love of what they do, that is nursing, inspired many people including their eldest son to not only go into medicine and become a doctor, but to reach the far ends on the Earth to practise the medicine he was learning. He is a doctor and currently in Indonesia with his wife and two kids being a missionary. I have so much love and admiration for Joseph and Joyanna. I love and admire all of these people more than they may even know and proud to call them family! They are, as well, an inspiration and have followed their calling as well and will touch countless lives.

This book is a cross being a biography as her life as a nurse and an inspiration to those around. Over come that fear of blood, know the science behind it and move forward in your calling. For in your calling is growth and opportunity.

You will learn between the different level of nurses, LPN (licensed Practical nurse) ADN (associate degree in nursing), BSN (bachelor of science in nursing), MSN (master of science in nursing). You will learn different terminologies, real life cases, and personal account from the nurse herself!

Why? Because she wants to encourage all of us to follow our path that we are called to.

It is a an easy read. Each chapter you can read very quickly and it has a prayer at the end of each chapter. If you are not a believer in God, or don't pray, just skip it but read the rest because it is good. I don't normally put books with religion or religious thought always as the top of my reading lists as blogger because I think of my readers as much as I do myself. This one I like because it does come from a place of encouragement not pushing you to believe the way she does (how I read it). I like the story and I think this is definitely one of my top reads!

We must all follow our calling as we were created to do-- whether or more over, regardless of your faith and set beliefs, we can do this because I do believe we are meant to be here for a reason and have a specific set of things set forth we are suppose to accomplish as individuals. We won't know that unless we try.

I give this 4.5 out of 5! A top read.

What does it mean to be Dinosaurs of Eden?

This is a book review from my eldest son who wanted to read this book.

So his review is typed up by him. What better way to teach him computer skills, reading, comprehension, writing skills, and more?

He picked out this book to read, not me. However, you will read a review from both of us!

What does it mean to be Dinosaurs of Eden, Dinosaurs of Eden,New Leaf Press, Master Books, Ken Ham, Bill Looney, Book Review, Fantasy, Bible,

"The Dinosaurs of Eden" is a book that takes information from the Bible and uses that information to prove that dinosaurs lived with people and that Earth was made thousands of years ago instead of billions of years ago. It has great illustrations and it shows real dinosaurs and what their names mean, for example, Euoplocephalus means "well-protected head". The book has 64 pages and it uses Bible verses to prove it's theories that people really lived during the dinosaur age. I give the book 2 1/2 stars for detail, theory, and the "evidence". I think the book is great for dinosaur fantasy geeks and advanced readers.

It has some stuff I believe and some stuff I don't. I feel like this book was meant to be a book for people who likes fantasy and magic. I think that this fantasy book tried to make the theory a little too serious. They try to take verses from the Bible and try to use it as proof. Though it does have parts to say to repent to God and be truly sorry for their sins. Those are the parts I do believe and I think that this book is a mix between dinosaur fantasy and the Bible.

Signed,
Avi.

Now, the parent's review.

I like that it is hard cover and easy to read. Great pictures and has some good facts in it. Like how terms like dragons versus dinosaurs were coined. But I don't like that it basically discounts sound science. They claim that dinosaurs were a live just a few thousands of years ago. Can I say this 100% true or untrue? No. But science has proven otherwise. Just as we say that if there were a catastrophic event on Earth today it would deeply compromise our own human existence. So why could that not happen a long time ago to the dinosaurs?

Statements in the book like on page 48, "Evolutionists don't have any way to know what happened in the past. They weren't there...they don't dig up a history book"

Um, is that the way you are supporting your theories? That is not science, it is conjuncture first off. And now you are literally claiming the Bible to be a history book several times and that explains how dinosaurs were on this Earth. Not only that but that it is the only true and 100% accurate way to explain everything, including dinosaurs. That is simply not true.

You would not be able to even make the conjuncture of this theory without scientists and historians finding dinosaur bones in the first place! So goes the theory of the Bible being the only history book- because if that were the case, how did you not come out with this before historians and scientists came out with it?

Basically, to me it boils down to saying without saying, that if you believe science you don't believe in God, or if you believe in God you don't believe science. I think there is ways to have science support God and God support science. But this book did not do that in my opinion.

It gets 1 out of 5 stars from me.

15+ Simple Ways to Help You Decide Your College

I am inspired to write this for my sister, Natalia, who is about to graduate and who has made me SO proud. It feels like so long ago that I graduated high school and went to college. Cue the walker! Just kidding.

In helping her with applications for colleges, applications for scholarships, and now helping in deciding what college she should go to, I am inspired to write this for her.

I remember applying for colleges and I wish that I had half the confidence my sister does in applying- I would have gotten into more colleges. When you are smart and come from a hard background this is something that is validating that you are going up!

What are big sisters for than to be awake at 1am or even last night 5am to help their little sister with one of the biggest choices of their life? I would do it all over again because my pride is just beaming!

So here goes 10 Simple Ways to Choose a College.

In the past, how did you make your past decision?
How did that decision pan out for you?

applying to college, choosing a college, university, 15+ simple ways to help you decide your college,

#1 Write Down All the Dates For Each College on a Spreadsheet or Poster Board

Whether you are a digital person or like to hand write things out it will be important to keep all your dates straight. What dates? No, not the romantic kind.

Dates you need to know:
* Application Due Date
* Admissions Date in Which you hear back
* When You hear your financial aid summary
* When you have to give your decision by
* When you move in

#2 What Scholarships Does This School Offer in General or to You Specifically

Apply to all you can but your school usually tells you the top three right off the bat. Plan according to what they tell you. In the meantime, apply to scholarships if you can. Here is an idea of what you can look for.

* Pell Grant
* Chafee Grant (Former Foster Youth)
* Federal Grants
* School Grants like Smith Society at UCSC (for foster youth, refugees, wards)
* Sports Grants
* State Grants
* County Grants/Scholarships
* Community Grants/Scholarships

#3 Make a List of What You Love about Each College

It doesn't don't have to be the same thing for each college either. For example, on the University of California, Santa Cruz campus, there are 10+ colleges all with unique things about them. If you want to and if you are that OCD, you can do that for each college with the university if you wish. Then you can compare all your colleges overall.

#4 Make Visits to Each College if You Can or Do a Virtual Tour

This may seem like a no brainer, but it is vital. It is a commitment, in my mind, almost close to buying a house. Because this is what name will be on your college diploma and degree. If you know that you like that college already without seeing it, that is great. However, many people are not like that. If you can't, for whatever reason, visit the college in person, many have acclimated to the times and have virtual tours on their websites. If you go there, you can do a virtual tour.

#5 Make a List Based on Your Visits or Tours

When you go, either during or after, make a list, similar to #3, about what you like about it or did not like about the campus. Sometimes you can love the program, but let's admit it. If you don't like the college campus, chances are you are not going to be enthusiatic about going to class every day.

#6 Look Into the Requirements of the Major You are Thinking of

This is very important. Just because the school overall is ranked well doesn't make your major/degree you will graduate with, is just a prestigious. You need to make sure that you are being taught well, that you are in a competitive program, and that you are going to do well in it.
If you are double majoring, do both! Then compare all the colleges programs.

#7 Look Up the Department, Contact Them, See if They Have a Mentor or Guidance Counseler

This may make you shy so it is not a must but if you have further questions, contact them. You will be paying them to teach you so it can be good to hear from the horse's mouth more about why they should be your department. I suggest making a list of questions and when you contact in the different schools, ask them all the same questions so you can adquately compare.

#8 Look into Clubs and Extras for Each School

An example would be that I was a deejay in college. This would be a great way to see for me, how good those radio stations are and what they can provide me. This goes for anything you want to do. So again, compare all your schools across the board. Write it down.

#9 Look into Housing/Living Costs Both In and Out of the School

This is and can be super important as well. When you are not living next to families that can support you, you need to be sure you can easily live off what the college gives you. Most of the time you can but it is always wise to do your own research.

Don't just compare on campus. You want to compare off campus as well. Sometimes you are only guaranteed housing on campus your first year. Some colleges don't even have on campus housing.

With housing- think about parking, how many room mates, cycling, etc. This are all important aspects regardless if you are on or off campus.

#10 Match the "Personality" of the School to Your Personality- Do They Jive?

This is important. For example, a friend of mine HAS to be next to an ocean because he surfs. He will not live or school anywhere without an ocean accessible for surfing in the morning. This is very important to him.

If you are a city person, do you want to go to a rural school? If you are rural, do you want to go into a city for school?

#11 Write Down Your Deal Breakers

If you have things you can't deal with, write them down now and don't waste your time. You need to be completely honest with yourself. If you hate being next the water, any schools near beaches may be out of the question.

#12 What Do Friends and Family Think?

Don't rely soley on what friends and family say but factor it in. They may know something about you that fits or doesn't fit a college or it's lifestyle that you do not. They can also confirm with what you do or don't know already.

#13 What Kind of Networking Do You Have for This College?

This means do you have a uncle or aunt or friend of the family that know people who can help mentor your through your journey? This can be invaluable to your journey.

#14 Take Space and Don't Think About It!

Maybe the best of all. Seriously. I am writing this on Easter to help my sister with her journey. Ironic, isn't it? Bake cookies. Go for a walk. Go the beach. Play a game. Talk to a long lost friend about anything but this choice. Take a nap. See a movie. You can come up with tons of ways to divert your brain. And you should.

If you don't, your decision will be muddled with stress and anxiety. It will not become the experience you have always wanted and then you may feel you regret your decision- regardless if it is the right one or not because you will have the doubt.

I know. Trust me. Take... a... Break!

#15 Gut Instinct

There is something to be said for gut instinct. Knowing that you are good enough for any school you got into is top of the list. If you know it isn't for you, you know. If you know you want to consider it,  you know. At the end of the day, meditate, pray, do whatever way you do in which you truly listen to your gut!

What does it mean to have "The Emotional Edge"?

I can tell you that not do I relate to some of this woman's story but you can tell already this is going to be a good book. The introduction was good I did not even realise that it was the introduction.

There are three amazing types of women personalities we hold. The Mother, The Adult, The Child. The mother is selfless, giving, and protective. The child is selfish, fearful, serving the wants of only self. The adult is the integration of the best of both the mother and the child to fully form the empowered form of self.

Something very potent and something I certainly don't remember deciding was this:
"By the time you were five years old, you'd made decisions about how lovable and worthy you were, how best to survive in this world, and what life would give back to you."

She talks about how we develop this script in our heads very early on in childhood about us and how we relate to the world. It somehow plays on auto when we don't notice and dictates what we do.

In this book she uses deep and long founded psychology to back up her claims, which I actually appreciate. She even ties it into how we have forgotten the woman in these archetypes we try so hard to define or identify with.

She talks about the difference between emotions and feelings. She describes different personalities within each archetype so you can not only understand more about you but about others around you.

What does it mean to have "The Emotional Edge"?, Crystal Andrus, Crystal Andrus Morissette, Self Help, Personalities, Emotions, Feelings, Blogging for Books, book review,

TAKE THE QUIZ- WHAT IS YOUR EMOTIONAL TYPE?

I just got taking it and it says I am Adult Archetype. We will see what that means... Let's flip some pages...Yet, I feel I failed it... twice and I did it online, not the same answers.  First time it says I was like Julia Roberts. The second time I was like Oprah Winfrey. I think because I can sway between both the Child and Parent Archetype. I am a very fun kid like personality but at the same time I have sacrificed so much for the sake of others. I have been working a lot on self growth though and maybe that is why it shows that? I don't know. I definitely feel there is so much to learn. The reason I say I feel I failed it was because by her definition she says that the Adult archetype is what we should look forward to and grow to and I know or want to grow more into that. I feel that I am, so maybe I am more evolved than I think? Ha ha.

Some of the other highlights in the book are such:

I love the releasing your triggers go through on page 135. I think no matter what, whether or not you possess the traits of someone who is or is not easily triggered, this can help. After all triggers are felt and not always seen!

1) Who is triggering me?
2) What triggers me?
3) How does it make me feel to be around someone who makes me feel this way?
4) Who acted this way growing up to me? Is there another reason behind the trigger?
5) When do I remember acting this way myself?
6) How does it make me feel to be called the same thing?
7) How have I overcompensated?
8) How has that hurt me?
9) Can I accept people for where they are at?
10) Can I accept the next time someone acts that way?
11) Can I forgive the person who created this trigger for me?
12) Can I forgive myself for acting in the same way?
13) Say "I am _________" (whatever the problem is until you are at peace.

I like once you can get release those triggers that you can find yourself in a better communication pattern. Assertive communication. What is assertive communication? She says it perfectly: "assertive communication means having the courage to look at yourself and at the bigger picture and articulate your needs with clarity confidence and composure."

She goes through some of the feelings and really doing a self reflection on shame, guilt, apathy, grief, fear, desire, anger, pride, courage and willingness.

She also goes through how to be self accepting by making us asking ourselves questions. Some of which go something like this... Do I accept myself even with others don't? Do I accept my body? How do I accept others?

She goes through how to set boundaries. I like the list on page 250's to really say NO to ourselves! No more accepting less. No more not doing something for ourselves. No more weighing self. No more talking negative to or about self. Also, LOVE yourself.

The big issue I have with the list that she gives though is that it is stuff like buying yourself lingerie, because you know, that is not superficial. I get loving yourself and all, but what about things like, I don't, sleeping in?! Wait, let me go take a nap... I need to love myself right now... ZZZ. Ha ha.

Some Amazing Take Aways:
One thing I like about this book is the ability to take the choice to take back power. I do feel the book is lengthy sometimes but good. I think it is not a light read. It is a book you delve completely into.

This is ME! I need to work on me just as much as I want to help others. I can do both but has to be at the same time. Not separate. I like this book for giving some good ideas. What are you doing for yourself to grow and what are you doing for the world to grow?

101 Ways to Have Fun for Girls

This is a book we choose to review "101 Ways to Have Fun" because it comes out from Girl's Life Magazine, which happens to be the Girl Scout version of the Boy Scouts' Boy's Life Magazine. My kids love that magazine (Boys' Life, not Girls' Life) so this was not a hard pick for me.

Also, I felt my daughter would and could use inspiration for her girl scout sleep over that is coming up soon. She has been wanting to have friends over for a sleep over for a while. She knows she is getting this book for Easter and she is stoked about picking the book. Also, I am not super girly by nature, (don't be fooled by the fact that I sometimes wear make up and own dresses because I don't remember the last time I wore one), so this will be helpful for her.

girl scouts, girl life, girls life magazine, zonderkidz, faithgirlz, 101 ways to have fun, ways, fun, 101 ways to have fun for Girls, Via Bella's Top Reads, Book review, girls, fun, tween,

I really like this book because it is done in magazine style for the girls and gives GREAT ideas for sleepovers, get together, and more for girls. Parents, it is also age appropriate! SO important with what the kids are learning or gaining access to this days.

Easy to read and breeze through when you are a pinch. Mama may be taking it for ideas as well when I get together with people or when I need an ice breaker for my girl scout meetings!

This will be my first "Via Bella's Top Books" for kids! I am exited about that!

It will tell you the time it takes, which will be interesting to test that theory on many girls at a sleepover.  I have 46 girls in my troop and it will be definitely interesting especially depending on how many come to the sleepover.

Here are just (10) some of the ideas it gives.

1) Book Swap
2) Take a Bitty Vaca
3) Become a Voice over Pro
4) Create an Abstract Self Portrait
5) Throw a Just Because Surprise
6) Do a Wardrobe Makeover
7) Become Fit Friends Forever
8) Host a pop up blog
9) Dream up a Flash Mob Sing a long
10) Top Secret Scavenger Hunt

This is going to be part of my daughter's Easter present! I can't wait to see her face when I give it to her! (Now I have to find two books for my boys!) I hear some quality mum and daughter time coming soon!

You be browsing many different site to find ideas, you can try to go shopping and spend a lot of money, or you can read it easily here!

First off, when you think most any holiday, you think candy, right? But let's think outside the box.
First off, I will say I have done all of these.
Second, it really is trail and error.
I feel like my kids will get a lot each Easter- even if it is NOT THINGS.
It is about spending time with your kids, celebrating spring and faith in things anew!

last minute ideas for Easter, Spring, 30+ last minute ideas for Easter for you, family, save money

A few tips on Easter I will give:

1) Utilise all your daily plans for Easter when you think about what you give them. They can wind up with so much candy and goods by doing a lot of activities. If you diversify it, it won't all be candy.

2) If you have more than one Easter Egg Hunting child, when you buy the eggs, separate out the colours for them so they only hunt for their colours. It makes it much easier. How? They get the same amount plus you can hide the younger ones more in plain sight without older kids feeling entitled to those eggs.

For Easter Eggs:

1) Change
2) Cubes/marbles or however your kids earn allowance
3) stickers
4) Hopping plastic frogs
5) Jewelry
6) Bouncy ball
7) Mini erasers
8) Lego pieces (you can split a set in them too)
9) Pieces of paper with affirmations tailored to each kid

For Easter Baskets:

1) Candy/Items from Grandparents
2) Books like this one that my daughter will get
3) Games/Video Games
4) Easter theme pencils
5) Easter Build and Paint an insect
6) Colouring Books and crayons
7) New Easter Clothes
8) Normal Snacks (you normally would take)
9) Movies
10) Tickets to the movies/event
11) Lip balm, sunscreen
12) Bathing suit
13) Beach Toys
14) Hand Painted Eggs

The Seven Laws of Love & How to Love Everyone

Now, what do you think I mean by everyone? Your spouse? Yes. Your kids? Yes. Your neighbour? Yes. Your enemies? Yes. Wait. What? Your enemies, too?! Yes.

Love is one of the most powerful things in all this world. Yes, more powerful than anything.

Now, just as 1+1=2, we should have love down to a science or a math problem? Right? Wrong!

It is one reason we crave so much to have true love. We thrive on true love stories such as a married couple, like the Reagan's, or a stranger who saves another's life. It is not easy to replicate and reproduce. Maybe that is why we crave it.

He talks about our love needing to be one of that is head and heart related. We can't walk blindly into love not knowing what will happen and amost blindly. Ironically, I am typing this with my eyes shut because my daughter is trying to surprise me with putting baretts in my hair, she made me a crown, which is so sweet and surpirsing me. I needed this today.  Talk about ironic meaning.

A good reminder for parents, that he alludes to, is that a mother of 15 says she can't love equally her kids. She loves the one that needs her the most and the one that is hurting. I have a feeling that she loves them the most at different times, when they need her the most.

The Seven Laws of Love, Book review, Marriage, Relationship, self help, dave willis, thomas nelson

What about love?
Laws of Love
1) Love requires commitment
2) Love Selflessly Sacrifices
3) Love Speaks Truth
4) Love Conquers Fear
5) Love Offers Grace
6) Love Brings Healing
7) Love Lives Forever

Love in Action
8) Loving Your Spouse
9) Loving Your Family
10) Loving Your Neighbour
11) Loving Your Friends
12) Loving Your Enemies
13) Loving Yourself
14) Loving Your Creator

He talks about how having commitment in their love is like building a house on either a solid or messed up foundation- which one will you choose?

It is a great read and reads easy. I have the same issue with this book as a I do some others. This book uses the bible and stories from it to help illustrate his points. He does it in the same way that he write the other parts of the book. If it is not a direct quote it reads as the rest of the book. If you don't believe in the bible you can at least read this as it would read as a story which is nice actually but I am worried it could make some readers turned off when there is heavy focus in certain areas. I critique this way based on the average person regardless of what their faith is. I think him using it and the way it is done, is done well. That being said, I am not saying faith and love don't go together. I am thinking in terms of reading it as less of religious read and one to try to reach out to those that could use the advise on how to build their relationships.

This has great humour and a lot of moments I was sitting on the couch reading this and literally laughed out loud and my son looked at me very curious what was so funny in the book. That tells you something.

It is also written easy for others to understand. Very easy read and a light read for the most part. It is real, honest, and forthcoming.

I really like that he has at the end of each chapter questions you can either ask yourself or journal about. This helps really get the reader involved in what they are reading. I think that this is such a great idea!

Here are some great take aways from the book I have! (Feel free to retweet or like if you agree!)

Okay, so you have heard the saying if you don't have something nice to say, don't say it at all?  How in the world do we all forget this? There is more to this wisdom than to spare someone's feelings. Anger begets anger. You will make it worse and hurt yourself just as uch as you hurt the other person. WE ALL need to learn this!
A friend told me a painful truth the other day. It was hard to hear. But there was a lot of truth behind it. Nothing is as it seems usually and things can get so complicated but when she spoke truth to me about something, I was thankful. It is better to be honest then let it get to you. It can and will hurt you both mentally and phsyically.

Oh my gosh, how many of us need to hear this?! It is like a constant reminder in this world that we aren't good enough because we don't have this job or have those clothes. I can't tell you how many people think different of me because I don't get paid but I volunteer my heart for my 65 scouts. Not everything is about money and some people have yet to learn that. I wish I did not feel so guilty sometimes, but I do.

I leave you with this one. First of, Oil of Delay, bahahaha! That is funny! But true. We need to stop trying to be pretty or rock a six pack for someone else. If it makes you feel great, great. But don't do it for someone else. That is not loving yourself.

I would definitely recommend this someone! It is a great read.

6 in 1 Emergency Auto Tool- Win It & Be Prepared!

No matter who you are, man, woman, teenager-- you need this!

I will tell you a story.

It was my junior or senior year of high school. I can't remember which year it was- don't knock me, it was a long time ago. But the basketball team drove up to their basketball game. With everyone in tow, they were good to go and off to have a good time. This was one game I did not go with them. They ended getting into a horrible, and I mean, HORRIBLE car accident. It crushed the car, pretty much in half, literally spit out some of the passengers not just to the road but to the other lanes. Broken legs, limbs, ribs, and games that would soon have to be cancelled. The boy friend of one of the girls was in a coma. Not just for a day, not a week. But months.

giveaway, Damsel in Defense, Emergency Auto Tool, Scouting, Protecting Family

In instances like these, there was nothing that could be done or avoided. It was no one's fault in that van that day. It is one high school rally I won't forget. I remember the girls coming into the gym, in good spirits that day. But unable to play.

If you get into a minor accident or one like this, or you are just walking to car at night, this is something that should be in each of your cars, and even to carry with you. In your emergency kit.

Basically, you need this. You can order it straight up here right now from Keri Allan.

5 Good Reasons to Try Dry from Dove

I am on the influenster's club and I got picked from CVS and Dove to try their new dry spray.

At first, I was like, "okay, I am getting to try to a deodorant. This ought to be fun."

I live in Washington D.C. where the humidity is just starting to drum up. Needless to say without saying too much, deodorant does not last very long when it gets in the heat of summer. I even can get self conscious about it. So I was not sure how this was going to work.

Here are 5 reasons why you should try to the new Dove Dry Spray.

#1 Last 48 hours

I was stunned- but it works! It actually works! Who knew? This is nice because I am a parent on the go and constantly having to lead youth and get my grind on for school. I can't wait to give it a real go when it comes to doing events as the humidity in Washington D.C. rises and if it does work, I will likely become a loyal customer.

#2 Non Irritating

It is not that bad actually. Normally when you think of can spray things you think "omg, it is going to be gassy and I am going to smell it when I spray it" but this was not like that. Clearly I don't use a lot of can spray stuff and may have been tainted growing up with hairsprays. LOL.

#3 User Friendly and Pretty Packaging

It has a rubber tip to use and it's kind of cute that you want to use it. It smells good- the flavour is called "cool essentials" which is pretty much cucumber. Smells very nice. It goes on easy. Has a cap to prevent from accidental spraying. Two thumbs up in how it looks and feels.

#4 Portable

It is not like the stick deodorant but it is portable. The biggest thing is to be smart about having it not in the heat or leaving it in the car. Use it smart.

#5 Can Lasts for 2 months!

This is a long time for something from a can. If you are like me, buying something that lasts a long time is worth it because in the long run it is cheaper.

Of course, it being a spray is both a positive and negative for me (I don't generally do spray things for environmental reasons but I really like this). But other than that, I really like it! I was pleasantly surprised.

What is the Ultimate Gift?

We have the pleasure of reviewing The Ultimate Gift Movie from FishFlix.com.

We are sitting on an cold spring Sunday to watch this movie. Perfect way to be lazy. Well, not lazy at all actually because it takes a lot of work behind the scenes to do a review but also to get the kids to stay in one spot to do a movie review with me.

I was stoked to see this after seeing the trailer because it felt inspirational and right now I could use some inspiration. Really, we can all use inspiration all the time. With all the things going on in the world, we need all the inspiration we can get.

The movie starts with the forward so to speak from the author of the book that inspired the movie, Jim Stovall. Makes me want to even read the book he wrote too. I generally as a rule don't watch the movie without reading the book. Which is why I haven't watch all the Harry Potter series. I am glad I made the exception on this.

With the big names right of the bat, I have a sense this will be a good movie.

During the funeral, in the middle of it, the grandson comes in a beat up car disturbing the funeral and acting as if it were not a big deal. This was a head of a major corporation- and Red Stevens was the head of it.

When they go over the will, the eldest son gets nothing. The other family members get things that most would die for but everyone doesn't not appreciate. Then comes Jason. The co order- Hamilton

He has to go to Texas to pick up his first gift from his grandfather. But is it is a gift or a favour?
* He has to do manual labour in Texas.
* Then he has everything taken from him and has to gain a true friend.
He had a hard time finding someone to help him because they were all to take advantage of him.
He befriends a kid
* He has to use the money wisely to give away
* Have someone over for thanksgiving, invites the whole family over and now they think he is out to get everything for himself
* He has to travel to a third world country- Ecuador, where his grandfather helped a village start a library. He visits the crash site where his father died. He gets held for ransom and death. He runs for his life.
* He end up building a hospital in Emily's honour right as she is passing away.

The Ultimate Gift- was more than just the love he found, more than the 100 million dollars he put away for Emily's Place, and more than the 2 Billion he inherited, but what he learned about the gifts he received that transcend.

The Gifts:
* Of Work
* Money
* Friends
* Learning
* Problems
* Family
* Laughter
* Dreams
* Giving
* Gratitude
* A Day
* Love

I cried. This is a beautiful movie! If you don't learn something from this, watch it again! It is lesson that every person can take something from. For who? Young, Old, Children, Teenagers, Parents, CEOs... yes, everyone!

We all get caught in the daily needs that we forget the overall needs we have. To ourselves, to our families, to the community, to the world and if you believe, in spirit. We get caught up that we, even if we have been down and out, have had moments where we forget what is truly important.

What is important to you? What is TRULY important to you?

My kids reviews:
"It was great. Can we watch something else?"
"I liked all the parts of it."
"I think it is very emotional. I think it has content for older PG people."

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2- Is the Sequel as Good?

A lot of the time we talk about things being as good as the original... is it? Is it not?

And many times people agree that the original is best and nothing can beat it.

In My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 there are many names, some new, in and behind the making of this film. Including the all hunky John Stamos in which when people saw his name, a whole row reacted. Haha. Tom Hanks is helping out behind the scenes as well.

my big fat greek wedding 2, movie review, via bella, prescreen

Some reactions from people coming out:
* Loved it
* It was great
* It was cute
* It was horrible
* It lacked something
* Too predictable

What did I think?

I liked the movie at face value but I can see all the points above. A lot of people have been waiting for a long time for this movie. For that it may be a little bit of a let down for some. There are a lot of inside jokes that you don't get unless you were part of the "My Big Fat Greek" Family from the get go.

Some of the jokes are spot on and diverse as this movie represents multi-generational settings and fan base. For example, some of them I got more than others because I am a parent. Some they got because of their life.

Toula is back in the dilemma mode as her teenage daughter, Paris, is about to finish high school. Toula is experiencing the parental dilemma of having to let go and know that everything is okay. She gets mocked by Gus when she retorts to her daughter "Why do you want to leave me?" just like her dad did to her and then he retorts to her "Pay back." Oh yea, I can't wait for that one. She has to deal with that issues that are her marriage versus her family in a constant swarm of things going on.

Aunt Voula is just awesome and stays completely true to herself from the first to second movie.

They try to touch of every base of diverse life form and generation with jokes (we went over that already) but also in relationship status, in dialogue, in the pace of the movie. What do I mean? Angelo isn't married and is hiding a secret from his family (but is he really? I mean this is the Big Fat Greek Family) of being gay. His mum of course knew.  The daughter wears dark make up, not a geek like her mother, and interestingly enough led to me debating with someone afterwards about it. I mean, it totally makes sense, at least to me. It is to match the times and how much more worried about fitting it or rebelling against it. Plus, look at BOTH families. Ian's (the dad) parents are more reserved and where her family... well is not.

I do feel that some of that gets lost in translation where parts of the movie don't flow as it would have been in the first movie. Almost as if there were breaks in takes of making the movie. Where the family is up the Paris' business all the time and let her go to prom alone? There is a familial disconnect with how I feel it would have gone. It did not make sense.

Also, I liked that the great grandma has shown her more human side-- not always running amuck but showing she really does understand and is there for her family. But of course, still up to some of her usual antics. Especially with many families having someone suffering from dementia, which many believe her to suffer from, it shows that they are still "there".

So what happens?

The family gets so caught up in sending the teenager, Paris, off to college and then Gus realises he and his wife Maria are not married. His wife, Maria, refuses to talk to him until he proposes and properly marries her. Then, at the wedding, with Gus having been a little drunk, she gets upset and thinks he is not taking it seriously. She goes back in the sanctionary room and talks about the things wrong that bug her in the marriage. "Who says a woman has to be married?" And she was one of those that said that. But right now, she was struggling with that, looking back at her life imagining what she could have done. She almost did not go through with the wedding. But does. At the end they love each other and been with each other 50 years.

I think the music doesn't always fit the scene. The first movie was better at it.

The daughter, Paris, was struggling with the same things, feeling smuggled by her Greek family, stuck and wanting to fly far away. She has struggles with wanting to go to prom but finally she has the boy, and low and behold, unknown to her, he is Greek. So they hit it off. They have a great time at the prom and come to the reception.

Then the family shows up to see her off to NYU, the whole family in the dorm room. See what about I mean about the inconsistencies? But it is a cute end.

Overall, it was a sweet movie and I would give it a 3 out of 5. I thought it could have been better but is cute as a fluff movie as is. First was much better in this blogger's opinion.

How to Master the Art of Freaking Out & Overcome Fear

What are the things that you fear the most? We all have fears. You can think about your fear, write the fear down, journal your fear, but at the end of the day, you need to acknowledge the fears you have.

So if we have these fears or insecurities, why do we hold onto them? More over, the real questions come in how to deal with it- especially with all the social cliques around it.

How do you master the art of freaking out? How do you overcome fear?

In the book "How to Live in Fear" he tries to go over his own personal journey.

How to Master the Art of Freaking Out & Overcome Fear, Lance Hahn, How to Life in Fear, Book Review, BookLook Bloggers, Fear, Freaking Out, Self Help, Christianity

His hopes are that this will help you personally or help you help someone who struggles with fear, panic attacks, or any disorder or illness related to it. That it does happen to any one and everyone and that you can get over it, or at least fight it.

He says that the reason that he wrote this was mainly to say five words to you, the reader.
"I know how you feel."

Lance has revealed not just any fluffy part of his life, but the real deep dark part of his life. How many people do that? Not many. We are taught that our lives should exist in the same format as that of Facebook posts. It is entertaining or happy. Not too many in betweens. And that is just not real.

So for anyone, especially a pastor of thousands, to admit the bad. As a pastor, most would want to reveal only the good in their lives- because they are suppose to be the upmost closest to God, right? Sometimes, I have always said, that we put too much stock in pastors as more Godly than they are and less human than they really are. They are people just like we are. Their purpose is just as ours is, just theirs more of a spiritual realm.

Lance says something profound: "I know I am a child of God, and I am still scared." This coming from a pastor who had even other pastoral staff tell him he was not believing in God enough because he was experiencing panic attacks. Contradictory much? I think what he says is profound! It is humble and not arrogant like many Christians who boast. That alone is REAL and makes me want to read a lot more.

We always ask the questions of "why me?" when it happens to us as an individual. Why did we lose our loved ones? Why are we getting divorced? Why did we get hurt? Why do I suffer daily from panic attacks? I am not saying any of these are mine, but they are universal. Lance covers his daily panic attacks though.

He talks about growing up in the 80s and the Cold War era where everyone thought they were going to die. And if they did not die because of the Cold War and a nuclear weapon should it come, they surely were not right with God because they were not just taken and left here to hell. Well, of course, that is definitely anxiety and fear at it's finest.

But think about the news that we watch. It aids and encourages feeling afraid that something may happen. That same fear Lance has I am sure is replaying for many-- including him-- with the news of North Korea sending a nuke into the Ocean. Sure to be WWIII, in many opinions. I wrote a book review here about the school system where the author in my opinion takes it too far about what is wrong with school systems in America and why it very well could be the evil of all.

So the news only aids and encourages these panic attacks or fear in someone that already suffers. And especially in this day and age you can not run from the news. You can turn off the TV, not look at news on your smart phone, and somehow you will still find out about it.

He talks about when fear kicks in it is hard to or you start to:
1. Assess
2. Make False Assumptions
3.  Give into Paranoia
4. Develop a Us Against Them Mentality
5. Indulge in Fantasy
6. Allow the Fear to Escalate
7. Focus on ourselves
8. Try to gain control where we can

He goes on to talk about how medication is a taboo for many-- especially for a pastor to be taking. After all, he is the closest to God, right? But that is not that case. Many people take medicine, just like when you take Advil for muscle cramps. Yet, somehow that is more acceptable.

I like this book as a personal experience and to be able to understand where they are coming from. Not so much as a self help-- but it may be helpful to someone who chronically suffers from it. It definitely helps to understand the chronic, not just mild forms of fear, that can take over you. So, just being mindful of those around us, even strangers, that there is much going on under neath it all for them. And being mindful to that can be super helpful for them and calming our own minds as well so we can move on with every day life. And if we need to, to read this book, take medicine, and most of all know we are not alone.

I know someone, and in good scouting spirit, will be handing this book to them in hopes that they will know they are not alone and loved. So thank you Lance, for sharing your story. And for being from California! Go SacTown!

Revealing School-- What They are Really Doing to Kids

Have you ever asked yourself if sending your kids to public or even private school was worth it? Have you ever thought that home schoolers were lazy or uneducated?

Has it occurred to you, that most home schoolers are, in fact, very well educated? That most of them know more about the neighbourhood schools then parents who should have all the inside information on the school itself and send their kids to those schools?

If you have any thoughts, you can learn something from this book "Revealing School:Discover what school is really doing to your children".

I will first hand say that I don't agree with everything in the book. Like Facebook posts though, you learn to scroll through what you don't like or agree with so you can read the rest of the book and get things still out of it. And somethings you don't like, you will still learn from. It is like sitting down with your conservative uncle and talking to him about the education system and really going into depth with it with facts to back you up.  So that being said,  some things I strongly agree with!

Below or here you can enter the giveaway!

blue manor, Revealing School What they are really doing to kids, Truth of the public school system, homeschooling, book review, education

Sure you have the kid who has a screw loose and carries a gun in, or sexually assaults another, or even the story in Maryland where a school volunteer made students be part of a porn ring. Or even the school where President Barack and Michelle Obama send their girls, Sasha and Malia, where there was a sexual assault on campus of Sidwell Friends this week.

Now, this should not scare you because it does not happen at every school but it does happen more often than it should leading to the need of being well aware of the surroundings around you.

Think that schools fundamentally care about our kids? Nope, think again! I am not a generally negative person- I think there are AMAZING people within the school system- teachers, admins, who really put there heart and school into their students. They have my heart.

But when some high ranking officials say crap like:

"When School Children start paying unions dues, that is when I will start representing the interest of the children." ~ 1985 Albert Shanker, President of American Federation of Teachers.

It scare me! Or even this:

" "Parents Choice" proceeds on the belief that the purpose of education is to provide individual students with an education. In fact, educating the individual is but a means to the true end of education, which is to create a viable social order to which individual contribute and by which they are sustained. "Family's choice" is, therefore, basically selfish and anti-social in that it focuses on the 'wants' of a family rather than the "needs" of society" ~1979, Association of California School Administrators

I can't begin, being from California, to tell you how stunned and sad this makes me. As the book does state, the rate of things like depression, bullying, even extreme things like suicide are part of the school system because kids are taught not according to what should be taught but solely to a test. Talk about unnecessary pressure.

You know, so the school can get money. Because at the end of the day, all our kids are worth to the school system is NOT the needs of the society but to line their pockets.

I do very much think that the public education can get great for many kids, but not all. But all the testing and all the non sense crap that happens everyday has got to go!

Homeschooling parents are not anti social- I would actually argue against that. We are very social. I consider myself between home school and online public school but social interactions are the same. I think that it is better even. My kids can interact on a human level with anyone. Not just kids their age. So goes that theory right?

Let me say that some of the radical things that are said in the book I don't agree with. But some things I do.

One thing the author talks applying for jobs after high school and attaching the transcripts in hopes that the awesome GPA would get them far. It was not until someone handed back their transcript to them saying this was the real world and grades weren't everything that it hit them like a brick wall.

Even further more, and I can attest to this, that a few, sometimes more than a few sadly, that graduate from high school can't read and write. My five year old can read better than a eighteen year old? Yep. That is the sad truth sometimes. It is not always because someone has a severe learning disability either. It is or can be the educational system failing that child. So based on the statement made above, where does that leave society's interests?

Whilest this writer is Christian and some of the arguments he holds I completely disagree with some of what he is saying, I completely do. I am not Christian but the definition that many use.

So went the theory that only Christians home school, right? Nope. I home school and I don't classify myself as Christian because while I do believe in God I can't stand being lumped together conservatives that over reach their beliefs into society.

However, some of the arguments he makes are completely valid!

For example, I CAN'T stand him calling transgendered perverted and saying that the only reason they are is for perverted reasons. I can't believe someone would believe that let a lone write it down!

However, it is interesting to me and I agree that all the information they gather on students in exchange for free education crosses so many lines. Even leads to identity theft of students before they are eighteen. Does that sound extreme to you? It isn't. I have had numerous friends who have had this happen to them. Think it was family? Think again. It was often a mid aged man who took this information. We trust these people with our kids and their most private identifiable information plus their health records.

7 Powerful Ways to a Faster Metabolism

When you are in a rush of the every day life... what do you do in terms of food?

Admit it... pizza, McDs, girl scout cookies in my case.... LOL

You either grab food on the go, buy fast food, snacks on the go or just skip eating all together. None, of which are ideal. But we all knew this. So why do we keep doing it?

When you read the title of the post, you probably assumed it meant, hey, this is 7 powerful ways my metabolism can get faster so I can lose weight. Am I wrong? For some yes, but majority I think I am right on.

7 powerful ways to a faster metabolism, fast metabolism food rx,hailey pomroy, nutrition, harmony books, book review, health, homeopathic, healthy living, blogging for books

A lot of the fad diets out there say don't eat this, don't eat that, but a lot of them give you more restrictions on what you can eat and some even saying don't eat at all. Sad, right?

Right now, gluten free diet is a huge deal in the diet world. If we just eliminate carbs from our diet we will lose weight, right? Gluten free is about celiac's disease, which is very real. But most people don't have it. So why are they going gluten free? Well, didn't you know the new study showing that eating carbs increases the chance of lung cancer in non smokers by 2 times? What do I say to that? I am not stopping my carbs because of that. Seriously?! Talk about smoking something.... Just saying...

BRING ON THE CARBS- I say!

But really, what is the best diet ever?
 Haylie Pomroy, who writes Fast Metabolism Food Rx, talks about my favourite diet ever!!! The one where you eat everything you want! Of course in moderation and tailored to what your body is telling you!

She helps you learn about what tests you need to determine what your body needs for health, gives you a road map with recipes, from beginning to end.

What does it cover?

* 7 ways to feed your body back to health
* Self Discovery zones to help you determine what you body is telling you
* Effective principles to assist you in restoring your health
* Delicious Recipes, Foundational and Power Food Lists designed for targeted repair
* Helpful tips on how to assemble your "Dream Team"
* More!

Even best yet, when you go to her website, you can find MANY posts and tips for you.

There is even a FREE jump start guide you can get! How cool is that?

E + M = H

E= Eating, Exercise, Environment
+
M= Metabolism, Metabolic pathways, Me
=
H= Healthy, Homeostasis, Harmony

She talks about that you can not have E=H or M=H, but both are needed for good health.

When you have issues with something it should always sound something like:
Q: "I am low in energy!"
A: "You should be eating..."
Q" I have diabetes!"
A: "You should be eating..."

There is usually always a way to show you how to better your health no matter the ailment by eating better and eating the right food.

Aren't taking drugs the answer though? She talks about the pharmaceutical industry hijacks our health because they study the body so closely and make us as a nation feel as if there is no other solution than to take pills to make our ailments go away. But that is simply not true. Drugs don't cure all and will just give you horrible side effects. Why I don't like going to the doctor if I can avoid it!

How is something defined as chronic:
1) Doesn't heal by itself
2) Grows worse with time
3) No single cause
4) Complex symptom profile

But how many times when we are diagnosed with something chronic and we try something homeopathic does it go away? Often times, if we try, it will.

She has a self assessment in one of the first chapters. I suggest getting a notebook and having the assessments done in there so you can watch the progression of your change in your body.

She talks about the difference in your body whispering to you, when your body is talking at you and when you are body is screaming at you.

What I also like that is if you have already had some of the test done on you, you can actually look up for yourself what you can do to help it. So, for example, I looked up me having a vitamin D deficiency. It said that my "diet" per say is for the mood one.

Don't think it is just for physical things. Have you ever felt anxious, over worried, angry, depressed, have ADHD? These can help as well. Addressing them in diet will severely reduce or eliminate these symptoms or conditions as well.

She has been known to work with Jennifer Lopez, LL Cool J, Robert Downing Jr and more!
