Zip It: The Keep It Shut Challenge

This book was something that I picked out because I thought it would help with my sometimes-big-mouth syndrome I seem to suffer from sometimes. Hey, got to respect the honesty, right? There was the hope that this would provide guidance as to how to achieve and unlock a new skill. I need new badge levels unlocked for me. Ha ha.

However, I found that the book faltered greatly on my expectations, especially for a New York Times Best Selling Author. I generally really like a lot of their books. However well written this one was though, it felt very biblical led and less about an actual challenge. It felt the Bible was used as a crutch rather than supporting evidence.

That being said, I REALLY liked some of the advise she had to give. I still plan on using this as a guide to modify to do a challenge. It just was not super well written or supported in my opinion. And no further steps were given to get there. I love the idea of thinking of how we think before we speak, but how do we get there??

Lent is here and a 40 day challenge is perfect for that. This to me was a great to have a 40 day challenge that would help me as a person and a friend and a mum.

It felt more like it was like I was in small group at a church and they were going hard core about teaching how one should or should talk or open their mouth based on the Bible and not so much to be a better person. While the intention of the book was not this way, it didn't read well for me.

It was an easy read in terms of time and reading. But it did not spark the want in me to "shhh" and grow.

It is broken down into 8 week segments and daily readings and prayers. The readings are easy to do but some of them are disjointed from the day's goal or prayer. Like how one's septic tank running low, and the whole story behind it, had to do with running one's mouth.

While I do think that this is something I can work on, I definitely felt this let me down greatly and actually pushed me away with some of the ideology that I didn't totally agree with or honestly see the connection between what she was saying and what I think she was trying to say.

There is the hope and wish that I would have gotten more out of it but I didn't.

I give it ☂☂☂ out of 5.
