When two people come together, both from hard backgrounds, it can be hard to see how that marriage can work out. The introduction to this book though, prove that it can be the very glue that makes that family even stronger & such an example for the world.
They do a back and forth kind of talking to each other while talking to the reader. I like this aspect because it can make it fun. Sometimes, it does feel out of place, but it is fun too.
The first part of the book is really about their story and is a fun banter filled back and forth between David and Tamela. You feel like you are sitting next to them. If you think you are going to be getting directly labelled and prescribed advice here, you would be looking in the wrong place. If you are looking for it through their storytelling, then you can find it more here.
It will be like you are sitting right next to them and you will be listening to them talk as if you are interviewing them yourself.
The second part of the book is more directed at giving you advice and ideas. It has quizzes, realisations, and even ways to honour your spouse- including sexting them. Yes, even that. I really appreciated some of the advice they had to give.
For me, though honestly, I would give this book more of a 3 out of 5. I really liked reading this as a story but felt that there could have been a little more designed to fit what they were trying to do uniformly across the book rather than just parcing it out into two parts the way they did. It makes it confusing as to the main goal of the book. Is it to tell their story, or to help others? Or to help others through the book?
I do love their beautiful marriage and honesty in that. They still love each other and it most definitely comes out in their writing.
Book Description
"David and Tamela Mann have been married for 30 years, but the singers, actors, and entrepreneurs are just as, if not more than, happily in love as they were in the early days of their relationship. In their new book, the couple will relate the story of their first encounters as teenagers, the importance of communication, and how they’ve been able to keep that spark burning through all these years.
The Mann's have delighted and inspired audiences through music, a string of plays and movies, as well as several television series—Meet the Browns, The Mann's, and Mann & Wife. They’ll share about their often hilarious and sometimes controversial interactions with each other, their blended family of five grown children and eight grandchildren, and how these relationships enrich their lives. Given their recording careers, touring, filming, and managing an outrageous family, The Mann's will share with readers the day-to-day challenges, successes, and joys that happen behind the scenes.
