If you are like me, you are trying to see June 1st as the second New Year's and get ready for the next homeschool year. And you can help guide that by using Hey, Mama! Homeschool Planner for 2019/20 Year by The Old Schoolhouse®, which is written by Gena Suarez.
When I sat down and started writing down what homeschooling meant to me, which was the July prompt, my son started to also list in the background why it was so important to him! It was so cute! You can read more below about how often, how the monthly prompts are structured, etc.
There are things that I really like about it and things I am thinking could improve on it.
This is a great resource for any parent but especially homeschool parents. Why is this?
For parents who don't homeschool, you can use it to keep track of events, scouting, sports, all extracurriculars and such in one formatted book. Heck, you can even add chores to the calendar if you wanted to... but if you do, I didn't give you that idea. 😜
I will say, above, you can see that I was so ready to get going that I started on June/July 2019's food for thought/prompt/devotional. I answered the question of 'why homeschool' and as well took it a step further and wrote out some personal goals. I do wish that with the prompt that there were extra pieces of paper to write so you can include things like your own personal, how to get there checklist.

You can add up to 5 kids on the schedule for homeschooling. The way the did it was great because you can have all their lessons on one page or a full open page (so two pages). You would put the subject line on the left and then under each child on the left, you would write in the lessons plans which can coincide with each other but does not have to. Which is great. It doesn't assume that you are doing the lesson plans the same way for each child and I really appreciate this forward thinking. Now if only public schools can see it the same way. Haha.
If you don't homeschool 5 kids--- that is okay! Use the extra sheets for something else or nothing. I would likely use it for notes, ideas, maybe even tracking extra things like soccer or scouts.
You can have yearly goals for each child as well as semester goals for each child. This is important. What I think is great is to even include your child in on them. Add their input or their goals for themselves. In that way, it would be cool to have a companion book for the student as well so they can learn to put down their goals and keep track of their own schedule.
I do wish there were more sheets of paper to be able to include what they thought IN the mum's or dad's version of the planner. Meaning, I would have my child(ren) sit down with me and help with what they think their goals should be, then I would make the list and then we would do one together.

The "Books Read" Log is one page and is cool but you will likely have to photocopy it to be able to have it in their actual lesson or lessons plan. I know with mine, I would have to make a photocopy, maybe two, each week. Ha ha ha ha.
The attendance sheet is great and I absolutely love how easy it is to use. It reminds me of how my school teacher back in "the old days" as my kids would call it, used to take attendance. You can see the full year at a glance on one page. One page per student which is great as well.
Another thing I really like is that they have the curriculum plan for each of the 5 kids including being able to name the company, contact, the cost, etc. This is huge because you can keep track of that all in one space.
It shows the full month calendar first, like all 12 months, and this is actually confusing. I love having a monthly calendar. But it should be in front of the weeklies so you know the breakdown for each month. So for example, You have January 2020, and then 5 weeks for planning. Not January-December 2020 and then the weeklies. It makes it harder to be able to utilise the monthly view.

The monthly food for thoughts/devotionals is great because they help create a focus not just on homeschooling but also on you as a mum. However, some of them are more religious than I would prefer in nature. It would make it more open-ended even for some Christians, to make it less religious. You can make it spiritual without it being overly religious-- that being said -- this is a more Christian based company. So it's not totally unexpected.
For the actual book itself-- I really like the cover but the binding can use work. I wish it was in a binder. It would be a lot sturdier to be able to use especially since you are using it on the daily. Or to be able to have the spiral binding and then have it be able to be put into a binder (so the three hole punches).
Overall, I really really LOVE this planner--- it makes homeschooling so simple and easy in terms of all the administrative stuff. This is important especially for those kids who are moving into public school or even those needing to show that they are homeschooling and how they are doing to the state board.
If you want one, go get one ASAP. 98% are already sold out and they won't be printing anymore until the next school year!
