I will tell you a story.
It was my junior or senior year of high school. I can't remember which year it was- don't knock me, it was a long time ago. But the basketball team drove up to their basketball game. With everyone in tow, they were good to go and off to have a good time. This was one game I did not go with them. They ended getting into a horrible, and I mean, HORRIBLE car accident. It crushed the car, pretty much in half, literally spit out some of the passengers not just to the road but to the other lanes. Broken legs, limbs, ribs, and games that would soon have to be cancelled. The boy friend of one of the girls was in a coma. Not just for a day, not a week. But months.
In instances like these, there was nothing that could be done or avoided. It was no one's fault in that van that day. It is one high school rally I won't forget. I remember the girls coming into the gym, in good spirits that day. But unable to play.
If you get into a minor accident or one like this, or you are just walking to car at night, this is something that should be in each of your cars, and even to carry with you. In your emergency kit.
