The CD by Mandisa, Out of the Dark, starts with real life messages that she received when she was going through a really dark time in her life where she lost someone dear to her and it shook her faith to her core. It was an uplifting way to start an album in a very real way.
I wasn't sure how I was going to like this CD.
Plesantly surprised am I!
If you didn't know and you were listening to it, it is fully in touch musically with what is going on in the main stream media which is SUPER important. I am talking the beats, the rythmnes, and how it leaves you feeling. That is a beautiful thing.
I genuinely think she is going to reach people with this album who are struggling in their faith.
"Bleed the Same" is so great because it talks about this very issue of innocent lives being taken in the name of hatred and racism. I LOVE that she took this on so elegantly!
I find myself dancing to every song and finding myself relating to the songs more than I thought I would be able to just through reading the lyrics.
This album will be great even for those that struggle in their faith because it is so relatable.
I didn't get the interlude "Mothdisa" to be honest but it was... okay, I guess.
In listening to the ablum, the second time I read lyrics with it. It made the songs more powerful to be able to read the lyrics while listening to to the music, her voice, her story through her art, and the intonatation of faith and change.
It is quite more powerful and that is something I love about music. Mandisa definitely delivers on this and some!
Mandisa wrote her song “Overcomer” in 2013 to encourage her close friend Kisha, who was battling breast cancer. Mandisa really believed and prayed that God was going to heal her, but when Kisha went to be with Jesus in 2014, Mandisa’s foundation was shaken in a way she never expected. She fell into a deep pit of depression for close to 3 years, shutting out her friends, family and the rest of the world. Mandisa believes if she had kept going down that road she was on, she would not be here today… but God stepped in and lifted her out of that pit by using her close friends to communicate their love for her and God’s love for her. This album is Mandisa’s way of letting her fans into her story – it’s called "Out Of The Dark" because that is exactly where God lifted her out of!
