I am sitting on a dreary Saturday listening to this while it rains outside. We just got off having a very rainy 24 hours where Washington DC may have broken records for "this day in history" for the amount of rain fall we have gotten. My guess is 3-8 inches for any given place in DC.
Now, I was a little hesitant to review this CD by Nichole mainly because I didn't know who she was and there are honestly certain sects of Christian music that I won't listen to because my faith is not the normal definition of a Christian. That is the honest truth but that also makes this review more real and impactful I hope. Let's just say, I am glad I jumped off the diving board and into the water to be able to review and giveaway this CD.
So, I was surprised that this can rival some current music on the market. I am talking about beats, tone, and the musicality of the cd. She has a really good voice as well that you don't notice it's your "typical" Christian music.
For that reason, I think this cd will have a broader reach to many people across. It is the perfect cross between Christian and popular music. It's the honest beautiful blend of story and pop/soft rock with a little bit of country influence. It is beautiful and the lyrics are by far way more benign than most any music on the market but yet will soothe you and inspire you all the same.
One of my favourite songs on here is "Dear Me".
This is going to be good house cleaning music because it is calming and uplifting at the same time or in the car when someone tries to cut you off.... just saying. Ha ha. You can blast it with kids around. Not that I don't allow my kids to listen to modern pop, because I do, but this is nice. It is light but serious. It is beautiful and has meaning to it.
Some of my favourite and what I think are meaningful lyrics are:
"It's history/You can't rewrite it/You're not meant to be trapped inside it/Every tear brought you here/Every sorrow gathered/It's history/But every mile mattered"
"Dear me, This is a letter to the girl I used to be... Dear me, there are some things that you should know"
As someone who writes songs, I L.O.V.E. that she writes a lot of her own song and even music. I can tell this when reading the lyrics and that is really cool. It makes the music all the more meaningful when you are listening to it.
Here are the songs on the CD::
* Every Mile Mattered
* You're Here
* Dear Me
* No Longer
* Lean
* Hush, hush
* Listen to your life
* Beautiful Day
* Sound of Survival
* Anywhere We Are
* Slow Down
Some the songs serve as advise pieces I feel. To herself. To her daughter. To her niece. To you.
Some of the lyrics felt deep with me because I don't always take it slow. But I need to. So this was a great reminder.
