Balancing Diapers and Deadlines by Lisa Tanner Writing is something that we are reviewing today!
How can the days of changing diapers be equivalent and a learning experience for being able to handle a full lifestyle and start your own business? A lot believe it or not. Baby steps are always needed.
A fellow old schoolhouse blogger has put the course together to kind of give you those building blocks to work from.
The online interface is very simple and can be done in small increments. But you know being a mom is perfect because you never get more than a couple minutes to sit down.
Now with me, you add the extra layer of getting divorced into it and you have even that much more of a reason to have to stay organized and on top of it. Which some may say that I am a thrilling success but I am not sure about that.
It's so funny because even from the get-go some of the lessons that she has for you are things that you may or may not know and forgot but are super important not just for starting a business but in the process of just life.
For example, she talks about why it's important to share this with your family and sometimes as moms we are thinking three steps ahead because that's what we do and we sometimes forget to sit down our kids and explain to them mommy is starting a business and this is why. Then to explain what we can all do to help and it's really kind of hard to do that if you're not explaining it to your kids and yeah it's such a common mistake because we're already thinking ahead.
Now, I'm not personal friends with Lisa but I'm kind of getting the feeling I could be because she and I are similar in that we are fully honest with our kids about things. For example, if we have to miss something I'm very honest with my kids about why scheduling is so important and why taking care of everybody's needs it's important. For example, when my older son might whine about going to his younger brother soccer game because he'd rather be at home playing video games I have to remind him that we're a family and that his younger brother supports him as well.
The same thing goes for when moms have to start a business as we forget to let our kids know that we need that support as well.
The great thing is that she gives you action steps at the end of every lesson that literally takes just a couple minutes to read but is to the point and profound.
A perfect personal example would be that I have been babysitting for my friends every once in a while and now my daughter is old enough that she wanted to be and is now a babysitter at 10 years old and she does an amazing job at it and so my friend would rather hire her over someone who's a college student because my daughter really values the work that she does and is very good at it.
So one reason why it's so important to have these conversations with your family is because in that support they get to grow and you get to see them grow as little entrepreneurs as well which helps them find more self-worth in this world I believe.
I love this is really cool and I am super stoked to see how far Lisa goes with this because I think it's going to help a lot of people out who are just starting out their business. Here is a little blurb from what she had to say:
This course is designed to help busy moms find time to work on their business. It's a time management and productivity course rolled into one, written by a homeschooling mom. (So it's written from a "my kids are here all day" perspective.)
The lessons are all fairly short (ie quick reads!) and each end with an action step to help inspire moms to actually take action to build a solid foundation for their time that they can build on.
