Before we continue, I want to say that I am super proud of all my girl scouts. We concurrently have three Bronze or Silver Award Projects going on right now!!

One, Erika is doing her Free Little Library and making a podium for her community at WES. And yes, she used saws and everything!
Another girl scout, Via, is doing hers by working with DC Diaper Bank and raising awareness about the needs of new mums and becoming a DC Diaper Bank Ambassador, where she will collect donations regularly for the DC diaper bank (& do an event with them).
And my other girl scout, Janelle, is doing her Bronze to help those in California who were affected by Campfire by sending them cards and gift cards. She originally wanted to send shoe boxes with gifts for kids affected by the Campfire, but after talking together, she decided it was best to give them gift cards so they can buy exactly what they need or want. It saves on shipping as well so it's a win win.
I, their girl scout leader, actually grew up in California. Not directly the place that was affected by the fire but further south (and no, not LA). So when we were talking about the fire that recently made history in California as being one of the worst in history, we all decided that yes we wanted to do something. So I turn it back to Janelle.

"Hi my name is Janelle Ampedu And I am a Junior Girl Scout troop 5823 My bronze medal award I will be passing out holiday cards to the California campfire survivors and give additional gift cards to help them get back on their feet & to get them a little something with the gift card. I also want to make these people's day. Even though this is my bronze award I want everybody to help out and to be a sister to every girl scout. I decided to do this As my Bronze award because I wanted to help people out so many people have lost their homes and So many people are getting sick from these bad conditions Like bad viruses,Trouble breathing,joint pain,and other things Believe it or not the smoke from North California traveled all the way over to Washington DC! That's how serious this case was- Can you believe it??
That's why I want to help so much because everybody there affected by the fire and in shelters is getting so many viruses-- that's another reason why I want to help out. The community can help them out too I'm making a nice holiday card with an additional gift card it is optional.
People lost everything including their homes and everything they had. And honestly, it would I think it would really make their day if you make a simple holiday card. We contacted the Northern California Girl Scout council. My girl scout leader and I. We talked to them and found out that 70 girl Scout families lost their home in this fire. This is why I want to help them out so much and lift their spirits and I want to make them happy. And be a sister to every girl scout."

A big THANK YOU to Home Depot in Hyattsville MD for donating the mailbox for Janelle's Bronze Award--- which of course, because we are scouts who use our resources wisely, will use this mailbox beyond the life of Janelle's Bronze Award!

* Called Girl Scouts of Northern California
* Called Home Depot (of both DC & Hyattsville)
* Helped to write this post
* Went to pick up the Mail Box in person
* Is going to help physically put in the mailbox
* Will take all donations and pick up gift cards to send
* Will take all cards and gift cards and send by mail to California
* Will help count needed patches and put in the order
* Will help divide patches for groups and mail them (or locally to give them)
💌 ⚜ ✨ FOR TROOPS IN GSCNC SU 34-8 or SU 40-2 (potentially Cub Scout Pack 33) ✨ ⚜ 💌
a) The cost is covered by only GSCNC SU 40-2 (Washington DC) & GSCNC 34-8 (Takoma Park & Silver Spring MD)
b) The drop off for the cards/gift cards will be a mailbox on the scout leader's house overseeing Janelle's Bronze award with your troop number on it (you can add under the scout's name on the envelope as well or in the card itself (if you need the address please email gstroop5823@gmail.com)
c) You may also bring to a scout meeting or organise a pick up since I am at the Takoma Park Pres Church every other Monday & every Thursday for cub scouts and boy scouts.
d) If you want, NOT required for a patch, to donate to the gift cards we will be giving to the families, you may send your donation via PayPal to gstroop5823@gmail.com and put "CampFire gift Card donation" in the memo.
e) For those groups covered above, your patches will be given to your leader at the SU meeting following or for cub scouts (if covered) to your scout at a pack meeting.
f) Janelle, who's bronze award project this is, will mail the cards for you!
