There's something intriguing and maybe a little bit Lifetime movie themed about the idea of three people taking the wrong bag and the wrong baggage with them leaving them to experience a whole new adventure. That is 100% What drew me into this because a lot of the times we think life as this cookie cutter path for each person but it is very much not the case for many people.
Love that it is a book is small enough to fit in your purse because I'm huge on having an actual physical book with me to be able to read.
the visual writing that the author uses is perfect for doing a Lifetime movie because it is incredibly descriptive and you can see it as if it were happening so it's well written in that aspect. However, I also do feel written more towards being a movie instead of just the book because of the way that it's written which is kind of hard to explain. It's not written in a way that is keeping up the pace well enough for the reader not to get bored easily. Yet for those that like these kinds of books it's really good.
The book gets a four out of five for me because it doesn't go at a pace that makes it easily readable in terms of keeping up with remembering what happened so even though it goes very descriptive and you can see what's happening it almost feels like the story is elongated more than it needs to be.
This could be simply a stylistic aspect of writing because again the rain is well done but it felt like a lot of background of each person was done which may be a little bit unnecessary because it's not until you get to more like page 50 that you feel that things are really fully happening. And for some readers who are grabbing a book off the shelf this may be a turn-off for them.
Book Description
In a similar vein to The Traveler’s Gift by Andy Andrews or Dinner with a Perfect Stranger by David Gregory, The Baggage Handler is a contemporary story that explores one question: What baggage are you carrying?
“The Baggage Handler by David Rawlings is an extraordinary novel that lingered in my heart long after I finished it.”—Colleen Coble, USA Today bestselling author of The House at Saltwater Point and the Lavender Tide series
When three people take the wrong suitcase from baggage claim, their lives change forever.
A hothead businessman coming to the city for a showdown meeting to save his job.
A mother of three hoping to survive the days at her sister's house before her niece’s wedding.
And a young artist pursuing his father’s dream so he can keep his own alive.
When David, Gillian, and Michael each take the wrong suitcase from baggage claim, the airline directs them to retrieve their bags at a mysterious facility in a deserted part of the city. There they meet the enigmatic Baggage Handler, who shows them there is more in their baggage than what they have packed, and carrying it with them is slowing them down in ways they can’t imagine. And they must deal with it before they can leave.
In this modern-day parable about the burdens that weigh us down, David Rawlings issues an inspiring invitation to lighten the load.
