Bytes of Learning

Typing is such a key part of learning now and days. So we get to review UltraKey Online Family Subscription by Bytes of Learning.

I am a firm believer in teaching kids about handwriting, cursive and also typing. They are all versions of the same thing which is learning to become better writers. I fully believe in teaching kids fundamentals and not just common core. So this was a product I was super stoked to review.

At first, my daughter seemed frustrated with the program because it would tell her how many she got wrong. It was great actually because it was a talking point between her and I about something totally different. We started talking about self and that is self-expectations when learning something new. She was expecting to be perfect at it though she hadn't had complete learning programmes around typing.

It took time but she started getting into it and her typing has improved.

She is doing typing as a class at least 3 times a week, often more. She doesn't do it for a few minutes- she is generally doing 45 minutes at a time. Which is better for her. Some kids learning small tidbits at a time are better but for my daughter, she likes to be able to sit down for an extended period of time. She likes being able to get into the groove- even on something as small as typing.

Things I like about this product is that there is a sign in separated from the parent and/or teacher and the student/child. This is important because then we can have access to things teachers need to have access to in order to be able to help their students more.

To even this day, this is not my daughter's favourite product to be able to use- even though it has helped her typing.

Since my first grader isn't typing papers yet, I haven't had him do it too much since I am still working on basics of handwriting with him. But it has been helpful for him as well to watch with his sister. One thing he really needs to learn to do is wear his glasses when staring at a screen, haha. However, I feel the computer skills will come more naturally to him, though this program is the perfect practice he will need to be able to do it.

UltraKey is a nice and easy way to learn to type and it is easy to learn but I think it is a little to slow for some that already know to type a little but want to know more. The introduction was clear and easy to understand but it is really really long to listen to.

What I do like about it is that there are videos on stretching and posture that help to remind you to keep active. Right now as I am typing using some of the skills that I learned. The goal can be changed to your level and you can change lots of other settings. And finally everything is easy to get to and the skill check tests the skills you learned by using the goal you set.

It's easier than normal typing lessons and programmes online. It's more clear and straight on. So, the skills check is a test that allows you to keep up with what you are learning so you can set your goal to what it needs to be and so that you can improve your typing skills as it is able to give you better advise.

They allow you to change the keyboard skin and the voice settings. That is clear in the introduction. I like how it is slow pace for those that don't know how to do it. It is very clear and understandable.

I absolutely would suggest it for other people to practice their skills on UltraKey even if you think you know how to type well so you can see if you miss anything.

Love,
