Hey everyone-- it is that time of year again! Pumpkin lattes and camping outdoors with Scouts!! We actually get two amazing opportunities to camp this fall. They both will have high adventure activities in them!
Packing Resources/List
September-- Bridging Camp Out at Camp Brighton Woods
29th September (Friday Dinner) to 1 October (Sunday lunch)
In September we are going to do our bridging ceremony as a camp out at Camp Brighton Woods with Troop 804. If you've never been camping before this is a great camp out to go on. It's not too far and you can come for the day or come for the whole weekend.
This is one camping trip I highly suggest that every Scout in the troop goes to because you will receive your uniform and book that night at the campfire during the Bridging Ceremony.
All girls who "graduate" to the next level will get their new uniform and be magically deemed their next girl scout level that night. ALL girls will get their membership pins from the previous year pinned on them AND a participation certificate!

Timing:
You can join for any or all of the adventures!
We also have this camping trip with another troop in the area who is archery certified- Thank you Shana from Troop 804. So you will get three hours between the whole weekend for learning archery.
We are going to be doing shifts!
Important note for daisies-- We will have nerf bows/guns for only the younger kids from 5-7. GSCNC rules state that daises can't do archery but Shana will teach them the technique. It has to do with the bows not being the right size for younger girls.

Dinner 5-630pm

Also if you've not done knife skills you will be able to earn your whittling chip/ knife skills taught by yours truly. You need to check this out for knife skills, and the permission slip is linked. Print and bring back (no knife skill training without it). You also need to buy your own pocket knife- Troop 5823 and the instructor (me) will not be providing these- look at the link above for instructions where to get one and everything you need to know about it!! Those who have already earned knife skills will help be KP and set up for dinner. Those that do the knife skills will help clean up dinner.

20 October (Friday) to 22nd October (Sunday)
Troop 5823- RSVP here, please
Patches earned: campout, junior ranger prg, horseback riding
Address: Big Meadows Campground, Skyline drive runs along the entire park. I haven't found an "address" but putting in Shenandoah Valley National Park seems to bring it up. Located at mile 51.2 of Skyline Drive, Big Meadows Campground is near many of the major facilities and popular hiking trails in the park. Three waterfalls are within walking distance; the Meadow, with its abundant plant growth and wildlife, is close by. (540) 999-3500

For October we are camping with Troop 5384. We are going to the Shenandoah Valley National Park. I am also going to let you know that this is going to be one of the more expensive trips that we do this year due to the cost of horseback riding (which is optional). There will be plenty of activities.
Adults in attendance
If you want to go, you have to register as a troop volunteer. You can find out here how to register in the troop. If you need something with pictures for step by step OR you need financial aid. check this out to help you. Only registered adults can go.
This camping trip we will be strict about the ratio of girls versus leaders because of the fact that we have very little space in the camp grounds we have reserved (they were some of the only ones left). So you need to get your deposit into me as soon as possible and if you want to do horseback riding it's absolutely necessary to let me know that you want to do that and get the deposit in for that otherwise we will not reserve a horse for your daughter).
If you don't do horseback riding you can still come and have a great time. We will have other activities set up as well. We are going to go to check into doing the Junior Ranger Program for this park as well!
Schedule:
Site 93/94- Troop 5823 will be in these two sites, right next to Troop 5384.
